1.
A sound of a distant horn O'er shadowed lake is born My father's song
2.
I lay some grass 'round my feet Bring the ground closer to me The wind like my voice is too loud I worry I feel more than I mean I have to stop thinking so much Stop thinking whenever I'm touched While not giving authority Bring my body back closer to me And I can't help but wonder Who's kissing him now? I don't even know how I couldn't let that get to me I shouldn't worry about things I cannot see I wonder who's kissing her now? But I don't even know how I shouldn't let that get to me My life needs a different type of harmony
3.
Going back to hearing the truth Lights above are soaring, it’s early in the morning Buildings cannot reflect my face Though I can see something, there’s no connection, nothing …that’s the thing ‘bout my face It looks always brighter right next to a fire
4.
My memory is everything to me, but I can't remember everything Like if I went back anywhere or why my bed feels bare, and my head feels null, while my heart is full Then I get caught up and led outside by pure inhibition enticing me not to hide Snow provides a contrast to not being able to get out of bed I would smoke, but I also kinda quit So I let my eyes become sunlit I wanna see meaning in something this morning, but I'm also feeling kinda tired and haven't had breakfast yet So, I'll worry about the meaning later and for now try to mean something

“…that’s the thing ‘bout my face/It looks always brighter right next to a fire”

In the summer of 2017, Forrest and I bonded over worry. The result of supposedly teenage emotions regarding romance and progression, this worry inspired us to start embracing our impulse as opposed to burying it away as invalid. We began meeting every once in a while in front of a piano to catch up, talk about how things are going, and write songs, intending to write and record songs as they came, not allowing ourselves to edit the immediacy of our emotions.

After a few sessions, we had a list that was narrowed down to 3 songs and an interpretation of a Charles Ives song. Nick recorded trumpet over it a few weeks later and, since Goethe came up in discussion as well, here’s “Wertherlieder”.
